Make a Pre-Vacation Checklist

OutriggerSitting in the sand, drinking a piña colada, soaking in the sun, and reading a great novel; doesn’t this sound like the greatest day ever?

Suddenly you shoot up and spill your drink; you don’t know if you set your sprinkler system to go on every afternoon.

In order to really enjoy your vacation, you need to take care of all of the little tasks that could stress you out. Take the following advice before you fly off to paradise.

Write down your to-do list

Don’t rely on your memory. We have heard way too many stories about travelers who think they are prepared, only to remember a key element that they forgot.

Keep a notepad and pen nearby at all times leading up to the trip so you can write down every notion, no matter how trivial, that crosses your mind. This also great if you are the type of person who tends to wake up in the middle of the night stressing about things, so you can simply write it down and fall back asleep.

Categorize and prioritize your list

Instead of writing a memoir, put your ideas onto different lists. For example, have lists titled Things to Pack, House Sitter List, Things To Do On Vacation, and When I Return. By putting things in categories, you can begin to prioritize the most important items.

Cross them out when complete

The gratification of crossing out items on a To-Do list is extremely gratifying. Observing it transform from a bunch of words into a series of pen slashes is even better. So reward yourself for accomplishing a task by crossing it out, checking it off, or highlighting it. You’ll feel even better when lounging on that beach.
